~ Lord, hear my prayers ~

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth His word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.” Psalms 107:19-20

Our Lady teaches us that prayer is a powerful weapon against all that is evil in this world and strongly suggest we pray daily, hourly if need be to secure our place at the foot of her son Jesus.

It is not only evil that we face along our journey here in this world, sickness and illness is as much a part of this world as is breathing. We all succumb to an illness at some point in our lives and it is through these challenging times we often turn to Our Lord for comfort from the pain we might endure and for the unknown of what is to come. Prayer is the subject of this post and it is prayers that I am seeking.

When seeking prayer I am often reminded of Cyprian of Carthage

“Let us remember one another in concord and unanimity. Let us on both sides [of death] always pray for one another. Let us relieve burdens and afflictions by mutual love, that if one of us, by the swiftness of divine condescension, shall go hence the first, our love may continue in the presence of the Lord, and our prayers for our brethren and sisters not cease in the presence of the Father’s mercy” (Letters 56 [60]:5 [A.D. 253]).

It is a love that I have for another that is also the inspiration of this post. As you may or not know I am a nurse, I have witnessed the power of prayer; every miracle and every sense of His Grace and His Mercy.

Many of you either know someone close, a family member, neighbor, best friend that have fallen prey to Cancer and it’s impact on their lives. It is through prayer that I seek out the intercession of St. Peregrine Laziosi, Patron Saint for Cancer patients. I ask you to join me with this Novena for my loved one, who is so very cherished and for the loved ones on your mind as you read this and in your heart.

You answered the divine call
With a ready spirit,
And forsook all the comforts of the world
To dedicate yourself to God
In the Order of His Most Holy Mother.

You labored manfully
For the salvation of souls;
And in union with Jesus Crucified
You endured the most painful sufferings
With such patience
As to deserve to be
Healed miraculously
Of an incurable cancer
In your leg by a touch
Of his divine hand.

Obtain for me
The grace to answer
Every call of God
And to fulfill His Will
In all the events of life.

Enkindle in my heart
A consuming zeal
For the salvation of souls;
Deliver me from the infirmities
that afflict my body

(name your petition)

Obtain for me
Perfect resignation to the sufferings
It may please God to send me,
So that, imitating our Crucified Savior
And His Sorrowful Mother,
I may merit eternal glory in heaven.

St. Peregrine, pray for me
And for all who invoke your aid. (3 times)

Erica, I have tears in my eyes from reading your words … the person for whom you are in part writing I’m positive feels the love that you have for them … a very lucky person to be able to call you “friend” … my prayers and thoughts are with your “special one” and all those who need these prayers of healing/support as well … thank you for writing this post …

I hope God through Mary’s intercession was able to help your loved one. You deal with sickness and sorrow at work and then try to teach, guide and encourage others. You are one of those rare angels. I will pray that Mary watch over you and brings you peace, love and happiness all the rest of your days. God bless you.

I believe your heart is so compassionate that the prayers you say go out to all you care for and all the rest you know to be suffering throughout the world. I have only known you for a very short period of time, and you told me you didn’t like the angel reference, but God has many servants here who toil every day on His behalf in our worthwhile but somehow menial yet necessary jobs.
You on the other hand have chosen a career that puts you in a place not all of us want to be, with people who are suffering and questioning and sometimes very near the end of the time that God has allotted to them. More often than not probably with family and friends who are reliving a life through memories.
Pain and suffering all around with anguished emotions and tears crying, weeping and sobbing for help, empathy and love. But you have a faith in God and His Son Our Lord Jesus Christ that gives you an incredible ability to care and sympathize and understand and console and empathize and show concern and love for those who are going through this difficult time.
I’m sorry if you’re mad with me, I’m sure it doesn’t suit you, but I know you are one of the angels God placed on this earth to help the rest of us confront life at its most challenging time.
I hope many lives can be saved. I know some may not. But I’m sure each person that has the chance to somehow connect with you feels blessed because of it.
